Out on the verandah with coffee and a blank page, I am settled deep into the lull of a mid-morning haze.  Seeds rattle.  A warm drizzle, no wind, no sky, no sun.

grey puddle
ticking steadily
a wing-torn moth

Suddenly, the air is a shadow dance of squawk-n-splash.  Fishing for goldfish in a cloud, a sassy kookaburra gets all wet and huffy.
there is a moment of composure, a fluffing of feathers and just as we take a deep breath the pump blows, nearly drowning the fish.
